RE2020: what manufacturers of EEE and HVAC equipment must produce.

01

The local framework

  • The RE2020 (succeeding the RT2005/RT2012) assesses the carbon impact of the building across its entire life cycle, construction included (around 60 % of the total impact).
  • The technical equipment is included there through its environmental declarations (PEP).
  • The thresholds are tightened in stages (2025, 2028, 2031) and the scope extends to new categories of buildings on 1 May 2026.
02

What it means for you

  • To sell your products to the building sector, a PEP will be mandatory.
  • Without a PEP, the use of a default value will penalise your environmental score and puts you at a disadvantage against a competitor who has published one.
  • Producing these PEPs remains long and costly using the classic method: LCA engineers are rare in-house, around €15,000 and 3 to 6 months per reference at a consultancy, i.e. several million euros for a catalogue of 100 products.

The programme to target

PEP Ecopassport

The PEP (Profil Environnemental Produit), operated by PEP Ecopassport, is the EPD dedicated to EEE and HVAC: the only European programme entirely focused on this sector, and the programme of choice under the RE2020.
