The BR18/LCAbyg, in force since January 2023, requires LCA calculation for all new buildings over 1,000 m², with an EN 15804-compliant EPD required at the building permit stage.
The BR25, which came into force in July 2025, sets some of the strictest carbon ceilings in Europe.
DGNB Denmark certification also requires EPDs for building components, including HVAC equipment.

What it means for you
Denmark is one of the most advanced markets in Europe on this subject, with a high level of gold-plating.
A manufacturer with an EPD uses specific rather than generic data in LCAbyg, which is a direct advantage against the strict ceilings imposed by BR25.
The ESPR (2027-2030) will reinforce this regulatory pressure.
Without an EPD, the disadvantage is therefore particularly marked on an already mature and demanding market.
