EPD in Norway: when the market requires the EPD before the law.

01

The local framework

  • In Norway, it is not (yet) the regulations that require the EPD, it is the market, and it is moving fast.
  • Major specifiers already require it in their specifications: Statsbygg (the State’s public building owner), the FutureBuilt projects (zero-emission buildings) and BREEAM-NOR certification.
  • And the pressure will only rise: as a member of the EEA, Norway will incorporate the ESPR (deadline around 2028-2031), which will make the declaration mandatory.
02

What it means for you

  • The Norwegian market is driven by tenders and exemplary projects that require product EPDs well before the regulatory obligation.
  • Getting there with EPDs means aligning with the local practices observed.
